this vessel stands as a continuation of a series in which i create objects of metaphysical nature, the previous of which was titled “ritual vessel”, and served as a space for an intention, prayer, or spell. this work is my second offering, referencing the historical tradition of using bones as tools for divination, such as scapulimancy or oracle bones. bones correlate to themes of sacrifice, mortality, and our connection to ancestors. each bone is slightly different than the one before, cracked and bent as if fortelling a message. for this vessel i wished to explore the darker, primal side of spirituality and connection to earth, one that acknowledges the cyclical nature of life and death. a space to hold ashes, a grave for that which you have let go of, or for a qualm that you need help deciphering. a space for you to sacrifice that which no longer serves you.
